Very nice lens. I needed one thing light-weight w/ tight optics within the 70-200 vary for those times I did not need to hold my stellar. however a lot of larger and heavier, 70-300VR lens. Overall am terribly proud of this lens. Optics, as you'll be able to see from the two footage I uploaded, are quite smart particularly coming back from such an inexpensive lens. solely negative is that it's all plastic and pretty fragile. The AF is tight, however not nice, and also the VR is pretty buzzy. Even the lens mount is plastic therefore use caution to not obtain your camera by the lens unless you have got a really light-weight body just like the D3000 or D40/60. Handle the lens rigorously and it will last you an extended time and you may be rewarded with a pleasant focal length and sharp photos. I generally place a 52mm Canon 500D shut-up filer on the top in order that I will focus extremely close (about sixteen inches rather than the traditional three feet minimum focal distance) which works okay too.
I originally purchased this via Amazon however it came in an exceedingly giant box w/ just about no packing material. Box, and lens, got fairly beat up in transit therefore I came back it to Amazon (no downside w/ the come, nice client service) and purchased it from another vendor. this is not the primary time Amazon has shipped me delicate electronics/optics w/o sufficient packing. I do would like they'd place additional effort into higher packaging. Books and CDs do not would like a lot of however delicate electronics and optics should be packed securely in order that they do not get broken or knocked out of alignment throughout transport.

Is a zoom lens at its lowest focal length the same as a prime lens?
I've got a 55-200mm zoom lens on my Nikon D5000, and I've been considering a prime lens, as I honestly seldom use the zoom function for artistic shots. But at the lowest focal length-55mm-wouldn't it be the same as a 55mm prime lens? Sorry if this is an extremely naïve question.

First of all, let me comment that your question is an excellent one (even if some of your answers aren't).
At each end of a zoom lens is what's considered by most to be the weak end of the focal length. This minimum and maximum focal area is generally where the clarity begins to deteriorate as a result of the separation of elements within the lens.
I have never seen a prime lens with zoom capability but don't discount the possibility of it ever occurring (or being claimed by a manufacturer).
Prime lenses are fixed lenses with less elements. This accounts for their quality of clarity, decreased distortion around the edges and improved chromatics. Unfortunately, in this configuration, it also accounts for their cost as they are generally faster than a comparable zoom.
The magnification may be the same but the quality and clarity of the image at the point of equal focal length is obvious to any discriminating artist/photographer. They just cannot compare.
I have a couple of prime lenses (an 85mm and a 14mm) that are remarkably crisp compared to my variable focal length lenses at the same setting (though I don't have a tele that goes down to 14mm).
The question is not naïve, in fact, it's excellent.
