Best Use of Macro Mode in Digital Photography
The macro mode setting found in most digital cameras can be a source of artistic HDR photography. The basic function of the macro mode is to capture small details while being up close with the subject. You can HDR photograph the smallest of letters or the finest details of a flower alike, with absolute clarity. However, to take macro digital photography to the level of art has certain requisites. The objective of digital macro photography is to show its audience something that it has already seen before, but never from the angle that you photographed it.
You need the eyes of an artist and a steady hand to be a successful macro photographer. Without the eye to find the beauty in the smallest of overlooked objects, you can not be successful in taking awe inspiring HDR photographs o the smaller world. Even if you have the eye of an artist, you will need steady hands to be able to photograph the minute details or the tiny subject accurately. If your hands shake while clicking, the photo may become blurry. Even if you have the necessary talent for being a good macro photographer, you will still benefit from a few classes in a photography school.
If you are using a DSLR camera, then you may consider additional lens to aid you in your quest to HDR photograph the minute. A proper lens can indeed increase your capabilities as a macro mode photographer. It may enable you to photograph objects that are invisible to the naked eye. Consider other equipments like a tripod to stabilize your shots to reduce blurriness from your photos. You should probably use a really good photo editor too as it will enable you to modify your better shots to the best shots. There is just so much that you can do with a photo editor that it is a must to have in your personal computer.
Macro mode may actually open your eyes to a world that you previously were ignorant of. It is time to illuminate your audience with that previously unknown world as well so find subjects that are interesting and new. It could be as simple as the patterns of a butterfly’s wings or as rare as a dung beetle acting as a ’bus’ and carrying several smaller dung beetles to their destination. Choose your subject well and after the initial selection try to take the best shot that you can. Take more than just one or two shots so that you can later choose the best one from a list of images. Everything will come to you eventually and you will find yourself growing with each passing day that you spend with your camera in macro mode.

Ebay .45 wide angle-macro lens??? Suggestions?
Has anyone tried using one of those little $20 jewels? I'm going from film slr to digital slr (gets expensive) and none of my old lens interchange. I enjoy taking close up pics but I can't afford any high dollar macro only lenses at this time. My old close up lens are the 3 lens set that attach to the front of the standard lens. Any suggestions from out there? Thanks!
Thanks David. I have a D40 Nikon. I have extension tubes for my old stuff but everything is 49mm screw mount (my Vivitar and Pentax cameras are 32 & 35 years old). Is the lens mount configuration on my new Nikon the same as older film Nikons? Is that what they call an "F" mount?? Thanks!
It would help if we knew what film camera you have and what digital camera you want to get. For example if you have a Nikon film camera the lenses will work on the Nikon DSLR's. Any Canon auto focus lenses will work on the new Canon DSLR's. Minolta auto focus lenses will work on the new Sony cameras. Pentax lenses will work on new Pentax cameras. The only ones that wont work are the Olympus film camera lenses. Olympus DSLR's use the 4:3 system rather than a 3:2 aspect ratio like their film cameras. There is an adapter available but you will lose many of its functions. The other lenses that wont work on the newer cameras are the Canon FD mount. Canon changed their lens mount in 1987 when auto focus lenses became available. So any old manual focus Canon lenses wont work.
All that said you very well may be able to use the lenses you already have if you buy the same brand of DSLR.
If they wont I would suggest you use an extension tube before you use the screw on lens adapters. An extension tube does not contain a lens so there is degradation of image quality. You attach the extension tube to your camera. Then you mount one of your lenses to the extension tube. This will essentially turn your lens into a macro lens by allowing you focus much closer than without it. They are a little more expensive than screw on adapters but are well worth it. Edit: Yes, older Nikon lenses are the same mount. The Nikon F mount has been used since 1959. There are a few issues with using them on a D40 but they will mount and will work.
